How long have you been taking pictures? What got you interested in the first place?
When I was in 6th grade I got a digital point and shoot camera for my birthday because that was the 'cool thing to get'. That's when I started taking typical, terrible snapshots of my friends, my dogs...anything. I think that primary exposure sparked my interest. On a camping trip I took a picture of a canoe with my brother's camera - that is the first time I can remember being really infatuated with a photograph. I started taking film photos around freshman year - my sister gave me her old film canon rebel 2000 for my 15th birthday. It took about a year, until I took my first darkroom photography class, but eventually I became interested in photography as an artistic pursuit.

What three words would you say most describe your work?
Comfortable, typical, personal

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/screen-capture-5.png" width="670" height="453" width_o="715" height_o="484" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/screen-capture-5_o.png" data-mid="7239803"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What song/album/ artist (musical or otherwise), if any, do you think most guided/ shaped you as you grew up/ are growing up?
eh. I'm still changing so much. Every so often I have some psychological epiphany and many parts of me alter. Last year I listened to independent artists like Maps and Atlases and Laura Stevenson - that music totally changed me. This year I've been listening to artists Nicki Minaj, Simon and Garfunkle, and Death Cab for Cutie. My tastes change every so often and each of my tastes probably contribute to a change in who I am.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/screen-capture-6.png" width="670" height="452" width_o="709" height_o="479" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/screen-capture-6_o.png" data-mid="7239805"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Do you think you document more emotions or experiences with your photography?
I guess it depends who's viewing them, not to be really pretentious and obnoxious. But if someone looks at my portrait of a teenage girl and sees the sadness behind her smile, then I have documented emotion. But if someone looks at a portrait of a teenage girl and sees a smiling youth sitting in a car, then I have documented a moment of the experience of growing up. The meaning is in the eye of the onlooker.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/screen-capture-2.png" width="595" height="375" width_o="595" height_o="375" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/screen-capture-2_o.png" data-mid="7239799"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/Screen shot 2011-08-19 at 11.01.18 AM.png" width="603" height="409" width_o="603" height_o="409" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/Screen shot 2011-08-19 at 11.01.18 AM_o.png" data-mid="9323871"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Do you prefer people, places, or things?
Definitely not 'things'. I don't really photographing inanimate objects. But all living things portray something "capturable" for me - an essence or an air. I think at this point, photography has reached a stage where everything has been done: all emotions have been exposed and all experiences have been explored. So I try not to seek uniqueness, but exactly the opposite. I like taking pictures of average things. Ordinary landscapes look desolate and scared when I capture them in black and white. The faces of my friends do not look different printed onto paper, but that moment in which they smiled, frowned or gazed into a different world is now factual. I like to take ordinary people and places, often overlooked, and make someone notice them. I can do that better with someone or something that has a soul to express.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/screen-capture-3.png" width="588" height="397" width_o="588" height_o="397" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483055/screen-capture-3_o.png" data-mid="7239801"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Is the future looking good?
My future or the future? I was looking forward to the rapture on Saturday - I spent all day on my porch with my buddies. But obviously that didn't happen, so I guess the world has until December 21st 2012 or whenever the next apocalypse is supposed to be.
hm, in all seriousness, if you mean beyond me... Maybe we'll alleviate our 14trillion dollar debt or change the world or feed the hungry. But I doubt it.

My future though? In terms of life...sure, it's looking fine. Pretty predictable: I go to school, I do homework (err... avoid it) and go to more school. In terms of photo? It's pretty unpredictable. I go through periods where I do a lot of photographing and periods where I get discouraged because everyone takes photographs these days and sometimes it feels like everyones photographs look exactly the same, what with flickr and tumblr and facebook and all this shit.

How long have you been taking pictures? What got you interested in the first place?
We got our first camera with some money we received as a wedding present and just kind of took it from there. A couple years later my dad gave me his old film camera, an Olympus OM-1n and I got hooked on film. Theresa hasn't quite caught that bug the way I have, but she does enjoy it.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-1.png" width="640" height="510" width_o="640" height_o="510" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-1_o.png" data-mid="7239963"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Are you guys siblings? Friends? One person with a pseudonym? I love how you guys are connected in your work.

Ha ha, good guesses, but we're married. Naturally we spend a lot of time together, and as a result we have kind of grown together as photographers. I suppose that explains the connection.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-4.png" width="636" height="428" width_o="636" height_o="428" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-4_o.png" data-mid="7239966"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What three words would you say most describe your work?
Tough one. How about quiet, genuine, and peaceful.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-2.png" width="636" height="508" width_o="636" height_o="508" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-2_o.png" data-mid="7239964"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What song/album/ artist (musical or otherwise), if any, do you think most guided/ shaped you as you grew up/ are growing up?
I think that would be different for both of us. It's funny because I think the music your parents listen to when you are really young can be the most influential. For Theresa that would be Bruce Springsteen, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, and Dire Straits. For me probably Paul Simon, James Taylor, and the Oldies station that I listened to nonstop when I was little.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-3.png" width="637" height="507" width_o="637" height_o="507" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-3_o.png" data-mid="7239965"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Do you think you document more emotions or experiences with your photography?
Probably a combination of both, but I think it lands more heavily on the side of emotions. I think I end up documenting a lot of my experiences, but the photos I really consider successful are ones that accurately capture or evoke an emotion I was having at the time. I think that's why I enjoy photography so much. Each picture is like a key that unlocks a complete memory and all the emotions and sensations associated with that time and place.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture.png" width="634" height="480" width_o="634" height_o="480" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture_o.png" data-mid="8013320"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What makes you happy?
Theresa and I just love to be together on an adventure. I don't think there is much that makes us happier. Our families are both very important to us as well, and whenever we are with them we are happy.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-2_2.png" width="637" height="407" width_o="637" height_o="407" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-2_2_o.png" data-mid="8013337"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Is the future looking good?
Definitely :)

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-1_1.png" width="636" height="427" width_o="636" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483080/screen-capture-1_1_o.png" data-mid="8013328"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Favorite song right now?
Theresa -
The End Sessions Volume 4 version of "Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It's a quiet acoustic version of the song and I love its simplicity.

Elias -
I've been listening to the song "Fires In The Backyard" by New Animal over and over the last couple days. It's so good. You can get their 2 albums for free on bandcamp: newanimal.bandcamp.com/

When did you start taking pictures? What first got you interested?
I started taking pictures on a family vacation to the southwest, I was using a small canon point and shoot. After the vacation I continued using this camera to take pictures of my friends skating. I then got a DSLR and I've been shooting shows and my friends since

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1641973/screen-capture-1.png" width="633" height="416" width_o="633" height_o="416" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1641973/screen-capture-1_o.png" data-mid="8052166"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1641973/screen-capture-2.png" width="413" height="632" width_o="413" height_o="632" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1641973/screen-capture-2_o.png" data-mid="8052167"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What are the last 3 things that have had an impact on you and your work?
The first thing that has an impact on my work are my friends. I tend to shoot my friends in whatever environment we're in, so where we are has a large impact on the photos I take. The second would be my friends who are photographers. The ways and times at which they shoot influence my shooting style as well. The last thing would probably be the season. When I'm busy I don't have the opportunity to shoot as often as I'd like to. Now that school is over I've been taking alot more pictures.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-7.png" width="634" height="517" width_o="634" height_o="517" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-7_o.png" data-mid="7420400"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

How long have you been taking pictures? What got you interested in the first place?
about four years. I started out as a painter and wanted to try my hand at a different medium. I found the challenge of making a photograph more than just a snapshot difficult and exciting. It was a lot easier for me to manipulate paint at the time; choosing which colors I wanted use and creating whatever I wanted on an empty clean surface. With photography, I liked that I had to use what was already present to transform a moment or feeling into something powerful and interesting.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-8.png" width="637" height="532" width_o="637" height_o="532" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-8_o.png" data-mid="7420402"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What three words would you say most describe your work?
ambiguous, organic, and rustic

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-2.png" width="637" height="526" width_o="637" height_o="526" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-2_o.png" data-mid="7420393"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What song/album/ artist (musical or otherwise), if any, do you think most guided/ shaped you as you grew up/ are growing up?
 I'm definitely a kid of the 90's. I loved Nirvana when I around 11 years old and plunged myself headlong into the whole grunge scene. I'm not sure how the music that I listened to as a kid influenced my photography today but I'm sure it left it's mark somewhere.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-3.png" width="637" height="420" width_o="637" height_o="420" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-3_o.png" data-mid="7420394"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Do you think you document more emotions or experiences with your photography?
I would be curious to hear someone else give their opinion on this after seeing some of my photos. I certainly think part of my photos are capturing specific moments; however, I think I attempt to document more emotion than experience if I'm setting up a shot and it's premeditated. Most of my photographs are inspired in some way by fractions of dreams or nightmares that I've been able to reincarnate. When I'm attempting to recreate something from a dream, the feeling that the photograph gives you is the most important element of illustrating how a dream left you feeling, either shaken or exhilarated.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-9.png" width="635" height="579" width_o="635" height_o="579" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-9_o.png" data-mid="7420438"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-1.png" width="637" height="529" width_o="637" height_o="529" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-1_o.png" data-mid="7420392"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Do you prefer people, places, or things?
I like both places and people equally. I enjoy solitude sometimes but being with good folks and in awesome places is the definition of happiness to me. I think strictly as a photographer, the location is the most important thing to me. If the setting is ethereal, you have a lot more to work with.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-4.png" width="635" height="515" width_o="635" height_o="515" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-4_o.png" data-mid="7420395"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Is the future looking good?
I hope so! haha i honestly have no idea what I'll be doing five years from now. It's kind of scary but also exciting.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-5.png" width="636" height="407" width_o="636" height_o="407" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-5_o.png" data-mid="7420397"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-6.png" width="638" height="413" width_o="638" height_o="413" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1517795/screen-capture-6_o.png" data-mid="7420399"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Favorite song?
I don't have an all time favorite. I get hooked on a few different songs at a time. Right now I really love Marissa Nadler's "The Lonesome Death of Sylvia" and Smog "Rock Bottom Riser".

Plymouth, UK

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/screen-capture-2.png" width="610" height="612" width_o="610" height_o="612" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/screen-capture-2_o.png" data-mid="7774405"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
When did you start taking pictures? What first got you interested?
I started taking pictures from a very young age. My auntie had a nice looking camera which I always played with as a child. I guess it all developed then.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/screen-capture-1.png" width="618" height="613" width_o="618" height_o="613" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/screen-capture-1_o.png" data-mid="7774402"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What artists (visually, musically, or otherwise) inspired you/ are inspiring you as you grow up?
Too many to mention. The poetry of William Blake and Seamus Heaney has always been very inspiring. Visually, Bill Henson has always been a big inspiration for me.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/screen-capture_905.png" width="704" height="675" width_o="704" height_o="675" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/screen-capture_o.png" data-mid="7774401"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What three words would you say best describe your work?
Nature, Anticipation, Journey

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/screen-capture-3.png" width="613" height="614" width_o="613" height_o="614" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/screen-capture-3_o.png" data-mid="7774408"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What are the last 3 things that have had an impact on you and your work?
I spent 2010 in the UK, studying photography in Plymouth. So the lovely people I got to study with have definitely had a huge impact on the way I see photography. Being in a completely different landscape, compared to home obviously impacted my work to a great extent. I also bought a new camera when I was overseas.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/5234291037_87870162b4_b.jpg" width="670" height="670" width_o="670" height_o="670" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/5234291037_87870162b4_b_o.jpg" data-mid="7774396"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Something you will never get tired of? Something you've always been tired of?
I'll never get tired of reading Murakami books. I've always been tired of work.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/5234883216_6bdf0466b2_b.jpg" width="670" height="670" width_o="670" height_o="670" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/5234883216_6bdf0466b2_b_o.jpg" data-mid="7774397"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Do you see your work as a documentation of experiences or emotions?
I see my work as not a documentation but a portrayal of both experiences and emotions. My work aims to elicit certain moods and feelings to convey a human state of mind.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/5260274841_28f6dbf02b_b.jpg" width="670" height="670" width_o="670" height_o="670" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1586939/5260274841_28f6dbf02b_b_o.jpg" data-mid="7774399"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Favorite song(s) right now?
Thats all right mama - Arthur Crudup/ Elvis Presley (both versions are good)

When did you start taking pictures? What first got you interested?
I first started taking photographs on my mums Pentax MX, a fantastic 35mm camera. I still use it to this day. A few years later I was introduced to photo documentary work like the members of the Bang Bang Club and James Nachtwey, to name a few of the more well knowns. I remember having such a visceral experience when I first saw photographs depicting such horrific imagery, and how they could be so very bleak and tragic but at the same time carry such photographic beauty. I would say that is the most interesting and inspiring thing about photography to me, this duality that can be found in some work.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-11.png" width="631" height="416" width_o="631" height_o="416" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-11_o.png" data-mid="7239720"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-7.png" width="623" height="425" width_o="623" height_o="425" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-7_o.png" data-mid="7239715"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What artists (visually, musically, or otherwise) inspired you/ are inspiring you as you grow up?
Other artists similar to the ones I mentioned who have inspired my work are photographers like the late Tim Hetherington, John Willis, David Hilliard, and Claire Beckett. To name a few. These photographers have taken social issues and documented in artful, beautiful ways.

Music has played such a crucial piece of the creation of all art I have made throughout my entire life. In recent years the work of the country musician Townes Van Zandt, to be more specific the song My Proud Mountains. The imagery Townes evokes in his lyrics is immensely bleak as well as beautiful. Other music that has been a key piece in my inspiration to create has been more in the classical vein. Arvo Part, in particular. If you are not familiar with his work please quickly become so. The first time I heard a piece by him I was in the Library at my school, and I cried.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-1.png" width="634" height="426" width_o="634" height_o="426" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-1_o.png" data-mid="7239710"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-2.png" width="634" height="429" width_o="634" height_o="429" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-2_o.png" data-mid="7239713"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What three words would you say best describe your work?
Right now my work is (scattered), (growing), (excited)

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-10.png" width="633" height="428" width_o="633" height_o="428" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-10_o.png" data-mid="7239719"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What is it that draws you to diptychs?
Both Diptychs and Triptychs to me can seem like an extension of the story, an addition to the puzzle. I have only really experimented with them when shooting landscape work. And often in that setting it just seems like the right thing to do. almost like expanding upon the content and expanding the image.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture_9.png" width="623" height="212" width_o="623" height_o="212" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture_9_o.png" data-mid="8068379"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture_12.png" width="623" height="212" width_o="623" height_o="212" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture_12_o.png" data-mid="8068458"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-2_11.png" width="634" height="430" width_o="634" height_o="430" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-2_11_o.png" data-mid="8068460"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Best thing outside your window?
Right now i am currently living in vermont, the greatest thing about it and the best thing that is ever outside my window is darkness during the night. darkness and silence, things that are not found when living in the city.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-6.png" width="638" height="428" width_o="638" height_o="428" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-6_o.png" data-mid="7239714"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What are the last 3 things that have had an impact on you and your work?
The last thing i think to have impacted me and the most exciting is knowledge taken from reading a book on the far east of Russia and Siberia on Amur Tigers. Maybe ill become a field biologist in a second life, who knows. Haha.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture.png" width="637" height="436" width_o="637" height_o="436" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture_o.png" data-mid="7354297"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-2_2.png" width="627" height="429" width_o="627" height_o="429" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-2_2_o.png" data-mid="7354305"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Something you will never get tired of? Something you've always been tired of?
Something ill never get tired of is, the idea of traveling by motorcycle to alaska.
I have always been tired of cities.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-1_1.png" width="637" height="427" width_o="637" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-1_1_o.png" data-mid="7354301"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Do you see your work as a documentation of experiences or emotions?
I would say that sometimes I am documenting standard "experiences" and sometimes emotions. Portrait work seems very centered around the documentation of emotions. But I would say that I tend to lean more towards the documentation of experiences because it seems less staged and manicured.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-1_10.png" width="633" height="430" width_o="633" height_o="430" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1483035/screen-capture-1_10_o.png" data-mid="8068459"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Favorite song(s) right now?
I've developed a big appreciated for the band Decapitated lately. Any song from their album hallucinosis is brilliant and brutal.

		<description>Alistair Holmes
Sheffield, UK
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-2.png" width="637" height="426" width_o="637" height_o="426" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-2_o.png" data-mid="7875502"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

When did you start taking pictures? What first got you interested?
I began taking photographs in my early teens with my mum’s digital camera and mostly took pictures of landscapes and nature. These were garishly photoshopped with long titles superimposed on top of the images and looking back I guess there is an obvious emotional expression in photography and that’s what first got me into it.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture.png" width="637" height="427" width_o="637" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture_o.png" data-mid="7875496"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/5352193438_11e51ded35_b_915_905.jpg" width="905" height="605" width_o="915" height_o="612" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/5352193438_11e51ded35_b_915_o.jpg" data-mid="9255414"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What artists (visually, literarily, or musically) inspired you/ are inspiring you as you grow up?
An obvious influence for me at the moment is the wave of young photographers sharing their work over the internet. Joe Nigel Coleman and Ana Cableiro are some of my favourites. Music can definitely influence art and I think we all have musical influences flying at us from all kinds of different directions. At the same time, there is some music which puts me in a state of mind which is inspiring and that definitely comes out when I take pictures – stuff like Sigur Ros which captures the epic and emotionality of nature.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-1.png" width="636" height="427" width_o="636" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-1_o.png" data-mid="7875501"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/5351584751_2197a8ebfb_b_915_905.jpg" width="905" height="577" width_o="915" height_o="584" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/5351584751_2197a8ebfb_b_915_o.jpg" data-mid="9255413"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What three words would you say best describe your work?
Moment, refrain, escape.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-3.png" width="635" height="443" width_o="635" height_o="443" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-3_o.png" data-mid="7875504"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What are the last 3 things that have had an impact on you and your work?
Summer, meeting the love of my life &#38; thinking about my pictures/trying to define them. The last thing throws up a lot of problems when you start something without a plan. Taking pictures has always been something I’ve just done and now I’m trying to work out what exactly it’s all about then a lot of issues in terms of “what am I trying to say?” “what direction is this heading in?” are thrown up. Unlike painting, for me photography always comes back to trying to capture something you see, whether it’s actually there or not and any kind of direction or concept comes later, or not at all.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-4.png" width="636" height="424" width_o="636" height_o="424" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-4_o.png" data-mid="7875508"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Something you will never get tired of? Something you've always been tired of?
I’ll never get tired of going to places and getting lost in them. I'm tired of the failure of capturing that.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-5.png" width="633" height="422" width_o="633" height_o="422" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-5_o.png" data-mid="7875509"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Do you see your work as a documentation of experiences or emotions?
I think it’s got more to do with documenting emotions, trying to capture a feeling which is communicated to the viewer but which rarely exists when the actual photograph is taken. If it captures a moment of experience then I think that experience and the emotions it creates are really within the viewer themselves.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-2_3.png" width="637" height="427" width_o="637" height_o="427" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1607367/screen-capture-2_3_o.png" data-mid="8040563"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Favorite song(s) right now?
some summery reggae.

When did you start taking pictures? What first got you interested?
I've always taken photos, here and there. However, I didn't start seriously taking a camera around with me and photographing until my freshman year of college. I knew college, as well as becoming older, would be exciting and I wanted to document it. I want(ed) to capture some of the beauty in my life (the people, places, experiences). My brother is also a wonderful photographer and I'm sure he inspired me somewhat.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/4896582382_a17c390e35_b.jpg" width="670" height="444" width_o="670" height_o="444" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/4896582382_a17c390e35_b_o.jpg" data-mid="8076142"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/4899740887_10e7d25724_b.jpg" width="670" height="446" width_o="670" height_o="446" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/4899740887_10e7d25724_b_o.jpg" data-mid="8076143"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What artists (visually, literarily, or musically) inspired you/ are inspiring you as you grow up?
This is hard to say. My life growing up was very rich concerning art and culture. My parents worked for the newspaper (music/film critic) and were very open to my brother and I experiencing the arts in all its forms. Now, even though I don't focus on Photography for a major, I go to art school for Illustration. So, I've been kind of knee-deep in art for a long time, haha. However, I believe seeing all those movies growing up really helped to give me a keener eye, so to say. I don't think I'd be the same if I didn't grow up having that kind of childhood. I'm sorry I couldn't be more specific but this was kind of like asking how many shades of color are there.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture.png" width="637" height="422" width_o="637" height_o="422" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture_o.png" data-mid="8076147"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/4162280596_01a63eb39a_o.jpg" width="670" height="444" width_o="670" height_o="444" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/4162280596_01a63eb39a_o_o.jpg" data-mid="8076138"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What three words would you say best describe your work?
Then and now.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture-1.png" width="438" height="634" width_o="438" height_o="634" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture-1_o.png" data-mid="8076149"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What are the last 3 things that have had an impact on you and your work?
This is hard to pin-point as so many small things have helped me shape what I want to do and how to do it. Photography has been, and still is, a very enjoyable hobby. Some of my close friends who photograph have really inspired me, especially my friend Montana Merida. Her work is wonderful. Other than that, just looking through my favorites on Flickr and learning how to properly use a camera have really helped my drive and creativity. Also, Wes Anderson films have had a really big influence lately.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture-2.png" width="634" height="418" width_o="634" height_o="418" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture-2_o.png" data-mid="8076152"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Something you will never get tired of? Something you've always been tired of?
Chocolate dessert with cheese (especially gruyère). Those who are unappreciative.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture-5.png" width="632" height="420" width_o="632" height_o="420" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture-5_o.png" data-mid="8076162"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Do you see your work as a documentation of experiences or emotions?
My photos are a loose documentation of my life. So, I would definitely say a documentation of experiences. Of course there is emotion, as always, in all experiences. I am very drawn to nostalgia and I like having these photographic memories.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture-6.png" width="637" height="420" width_o="637" height_o="420" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1646324/screen-capture-6_o.png" data-mid="8076165"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

When did you first start taking pictures? What got you interested?
When I was 15 my father gave me his Polaroid camera from the '80s and began teaching me how to take photographs. I loved the aesthetic of everything old, especially the worn look of the pictures my parents took of each other when they were younger, and I didn't imagine anything shot in color could be compelling for me until I saw Ryan McGinley's photographs. I'm moved by art that makes me want to make art - Klimt's sketches, Mary Ellen Mark, Dali. Slavic music, Defiance Ohio, and Why? have recently been very inspiring to me, as are my current favorite poets - James Tate, Jack Gilbert, Rimbaud. Mostly things that the people around me create. I make a lot of art that incorporates language.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1795338/Screen shot 2011-08-02 at 11.56.02 PM.png" width="422" height="633" width_o="422" height_o="633" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1795338/Screen shot 2011-08-02 at 11.56.02 PM_o.png" data-mid="8948788"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1795338/Screen shot 2011-08-02 at 11.54.06 PM.png" width="360" height="496" width_o="360" height_o="496" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1795338/Screen shot 2011-08-02 at 11.54.06 PM_o.png" data-mid="8948768"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What three words would you say best describe your work?
 nascent, untethered, curious

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1795338/Screen shot 2011-08-02 at 11.53.57 PM.png" width="496" height="359" width_o="496" height_o="359" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/3/106647/1795338/Screen shot 2011-08-02 at 11.53.57 PM_o.png" data-mid="8948765"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What is it about diptychs that are so appealing to you?
I'm drawn to diptychs because I am indecisive and easily moved; the free associations and synesthetic connections that occur between two images are overwhelmingly ecstatic and beautiful to me.
